Apple and cherry wood. Joinery, CNC router

The project combines traditional craft with contemporary joinery. The tradition is visible in the carpentry: connectors, old apple tree and cherry tree wood. Modernity lies in the ability to modify the top, as the boards are separate – joined with neodymium magnets. Boards were made in 3 widths – 5, 10 and 15 cm. The obverse and reverse of the top are different – one side has been milled with CNC technology while the other is smooth and can be painted in any color. This gives yet another opportunity for modification.
Thanks to the wedge joints, the table is foldable and is easy to transport.

MALAFOR is a studio and a brand created by Agata Kulik-Pomorska and Paweł Pomorski. They graduated Industrial Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk. Shortly after graduating the university they decided to treat MALAFOR not only as an idea, but also as a brand, which they are currently developing. They started by designing and producing small series of objects. In recent years they also design for the industry, both under their own brand as well as for external companies.
MALAFOR is the winner of many international competitions and awards, including the Red Dot Award 2012 and the IF Design Award 2012.
As of 2015 MALAFOR organizes workshops for students of design under the name „Obserwatorium“ ("Observatory") where the design is closely related to nature characteristic of the site where the workshops take place. The first after-workshop exhibition was held at the Lódź Design Festival 2015.
